KEBBI STATE government has promised to support the victims of the windstorm in Zauro Town of Birnin Kebbi Local Government.
Addressing the victims when he paid a sympathy visit to the area, the state Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida Kabi, said that the relief materials such as zinc roofing sheets, cement and other items will be given to the victims in order for them to resettle in their homes immediately.
The incident which happened as a result of a heavy windstorm, blew off roofs and walls of over 100 houses at Zauro town in Birnin Kebbi Local Government Area of Kebbi state destroying properties worth millions of Naira.
The Deputy Governor gave the directive when he was conducted round the affected houses by the representative of the District Head of Zauro, Alhaji Muhammad Dikko and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Hon. Shafi’u Abubakar Zauro.
He described the incident as unfortunate while sympathizing with victims on behalf of the state Governor, Dr Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu.
“I have directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to hasten assessment of the affected houses and provide support within 24 hours in order to cushion their hardship,” he said
Also speaking to newsmen, the representative of the District Head of Zauro, Alhaji Muhammad Dikko thanked the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala, officials from HYPADEC and SEMA for their concern.
Alhaji Muhammad Dikko further commended the governor and his deputy for the gesture which according to him will go a long way in cushioning the suffering of the victims. He prayed to Allah for the safe return of the governor and other pilgrims from the Holy Land.
The deputy governor was accompanied by Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafidan Yauri, Special Advisers and SEMA officials, among others.
