A final year student of the Kwara State College of Education, Yetunde Hafsoh Lawal, was found murdered and her body dismembered.
According to reports, Yetunde attended a naming ceremony on Monday, 10 February 2025, where she received a call from a friend. She dropped her food to answer the call and then left. Since then she was never seen alive again.
Her parents reported her disappearance at the Oja-Oba Police Station in Ilorin the following day. The police used her phone number to track her last call, which led them to a suspect living in the Offa garage district area of Ilorin.
Initially, the suspect denied knowledge of Yetunde’s whereabouts. However, after a search of his house, he confessed that Yetunde had died from an asthma attack after he called her to come over. According to the suspect, they met on Facebook, where he obtained her phone number. He then called her, inviting her to come over.
Further investigation revealed that Yetunde’s body had been dismembered and hidden in a bowl, along with the equipment used to dismember her.
Interestingly, the suspect who allegedly committed the heinous crime is reportedly the son of a well-known cleric from Isalekoto, Ilorin. His father, a prominent figure in the community, had recently passed away.
He is currently being held at the Kwara State Police Headquarters. Evidence found in his residence suggests that Yetunde may not be his first victim, as a table in his room appeared to be equipped with tools used to dismember bodies.
