CSP Adetayo Akerele-led Lagos State Task Force Thursday (yesterday) impounded a total of Sixty-Four (64) motorcycles (popularly known as Okada) found operating on restricted routes at Aunty Kenny Bus Stop in Ikorodu and Berger Bus Stop.
According to Gbadeyan Abdulraheem Director, Press & Public Affairs of the agency, the impounded motorbikes flouted the ban on their activities on all highways in the metropolis. The enforcement exercise, he said, was part of the ongoing effort by the agency to maintain order and ensure compliance with the state government’s ban on okada operations in designated areas.
Speaking after the operation, CSP Akerele reiterated government’s stance, warning okada operators to desist from flouting the law. He urged them to seek alternative means of livelihood, as continuing to operate illegally could lead to severe penalties, including jail terms for both the rider and passengers.
“The Lagos State Task Force remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of Lagos residents by enforcing environmental and traffic laws that support public safety.
“The Chairman assured residents that the agency, under his watch, would ensure that the activities of okada operators in all restricted areas become a thing of the past. He urged commuters to embrace safer and secure means of transportation which are in line with the THEMES PLUS agenda of the state government”, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem said in a statement.
