Four suspected armed robbers, who specialised in the snatching of cars in the Iba-Igando-Egbeda axis of Lagos State at gunpoint, have been smashed.
The gang’s operations, police said, were not limited to car snatching but included dispossession of their victims of other valuables such as iPhones.
The state police command disclosed that all male suspects’ identities, in a statement by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Command Police Public Relations Officer as Victor Chibuike (aka Azaman), 26; Kingsley Ndubuisi (aka kango), 33; Augustine James (aka Edo boy) 29 and Lateef Babatunde, 33.
Their arrest, Hundeyin said, was sequel to “the launching of a swift investigation immediately a report was received on 7th August 2022 that a 2010 Lexus RX 350 SUV, 2006 Toyota Camry saloon car, an iPhone and other valuables were robbed at gunpoint”.
Items recovered from the suspects were three locally made pistols, a locally made semi-automatic pistol and 12 live cartridges.
“Investigations revealed that the suspects were notorious for robbing their victims of valuables and vehicles along the Iba-Igando-Egbeda axis of Lagos State”, the PPRO said.
Meanwhile, according to him, efforts are ongoing to arrest the criminal receiver of stolen goods, and possible recovery other items stolen by the gang in the past, adding that the suspects would be arraigned at the end of investigation.
