AN early morning inferno on Saturday, 23 September wreaked havoc at Mega Plastics Company on 4, Ilupeju Bypass, besides Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in the Ilupeju area of Lagos.
The worst affected by the industrial fire disaster was the storage and factory section of the petrochemical company, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), stated in a press release issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.
No life nor injury was recorded in the incident, the statement added.
According to Adebayo, as the first responders, officials of LASTMA, led by Ayo Olaosebikan (Falcon) of Zone 21, arrived at the scene at about 6:30 a.m. and thereafter, sent distress calls to other responders.
“Immediately we arrived at the scene of the industrial fire, we quickly informed other emergency responders, particularly the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Nigerian Police”, Olaosebikan stated.
The cause of the fire, could not be immediately ascertained, “but a preliminary investigation conducted by Olaosebikan revealed that the storage and factory section of the petrochemical company were seriously affected by the fire outbreak”, the statement disclosed.
Other emergency responders at the scene included the Federal and Lagos State Fire Services, Policemen and the Response Unit of Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA).
