OPERATIVES of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a domestic assistant (otherwise called house help) who attempted to sell her boss’ baby to a prospective bidder for Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800,000.00) in Alade Market, Shomolu, Lagos State.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, in a post on his X handle on Monday morning revealed that the baby had been returned to his family.
He stated that efforts were underway to apprehend the prospective buyer.
He wrote: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. The baby was promptly rescued by the police.
“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her. Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
The news about the abduction of the infant was first made public by an X user, Mide-Bomaye who identified the domestic help as Ruth Okezie.
Giving an update on the issue, Mide-Bomaye confirmed that the baby had been reunited with his family by the police in his recent post on X.
He wrote: “I made a tweet over the weekend in regards (sic) to a baby stolen by the house help. I’m glad to notify everyone that the baby was found this morning at Shomoulu. Many thanks to everyone and the police for helping. The baby is united with the family.”
