JUSTICE Mojisola Dada of a Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja earlier today sentenced a man, Olufunsho Aladenola, to one year and five months imprisonment over involvement in Eighteen Million, Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N18.300,000.00) fraud.
The judge sentenced Aladenola, following his plea bargain agreement, to the three-count charge bordering on stealing and forgery brought against him by the Economic and Finacial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Dada adopted the plea bargain agreement and sentenced the convict without an option of a fine, ordering that the convict commence his sentencing from the date he was arraigned, 26 April 2023.
The judge also ordered the convict to restitute the outstanding balance of Eight Million Naira (N8,000,000.00) back to the complainant, as agreed by the parties.
Earlier, EFCC counsel, Mrs Tinuke Daramola, had told the court that the convict had restituted the sum of Twelve Million Naira (N12,000,000.00) to the complainant.
EFCC had initially arraigned the convict on 14 counts of charges bordering on stealing and forgery when he was first arraigned, and the prosecution presented one witness.
The anti-graft commission, however, amended the charges to three counts following the plea bargain agreement.
The prosecution said that the convict converted the said sum, property of one Mrs Olabisi Akinmola, to his personal use.
His offence, according to the EFCC, contravenes sections 278, 285 and 363 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
