- Dispatch Rider Nabbed With Pistol
A suspected armed robber cum kidnapper, who often disguised as a lunatic, has been arrested in Lagos.
The suspect, Olaseinde Ojo, who was among several other criminal suspects currently in police net, was nabbed at the Isokoko Post Office in Agege by detectives from Lagos and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) commands.
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who made the disclosure in a statement, said the suspect, hid under the pretext of being mentally deranged and used that as a cover to rob or kidnap.
Another suspect, identified as Samson Shina, who ordinarily would have been taken for a dispatch rider, was intercepted and arrested along Dolphin Bridge on Lagos Island by police operatives on patrol.
Found in his possession was a locally-made pistol and some charms.
Similarly, operatives of the FCT Command on a stop-and-search operation around the Taxi Park area in Abuja, accosted a motorcycle with three persons onboard, one of whom was identified as Usman Musa.
A locally fabricated Beretta pistol with 11 rounds of live ammunition was recovered from the trio, even as a search conducted in their abode led to the recovery of 5,800 fake United States of America (US) dollar notes, as well as other incriminating items.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has, however, called on Nigerians to be cautious, vigilant and prioritize their security, “amid rising concerns about personal safety”.
According to the Force spokesman, With recent reports of various incidents of thefts, defilements, and assaults, “it’s essential for individuals to take proactive measures by being sensitive to their surroundings, especially in unfamiliar areas, and avoid isolated or poorly lit places, particularly at night.
“Moreover, members of the public are encouraged to keep their belongings secure and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly”, the FPRO advised, adding, “By staying alert and cautious, everyone can play a role in fostering a safer society for all, and we will not fall into the antics of criminals”.
