THE Lagos State government has taken delivery of another two thousand brand new e-hailing Lagride vehicles and another three thousand are expected in the next few months.
One thousand of the Lagride taxis are Compressed Natural Gas, CNG and Electric vehicles.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known during the official signing ceremony of the partnership between the investment arm of the Lagos State government, Ibile Holdings and a Chinese automobile company, CIG, at the Lagos House, Ikeja.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said the intentional development was to provide economically viable and environment-friendly public transportation for residents at different levels.
While calling for more public-private partnerships, the governor believed that the collaboration with the automobile company, which has its assembling plant in Ikeja, would boost employment opportunities for the youths in Lagos.
On his part, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, expressed optimism that the new e-hailing Lagride would provide a safe and smart e-mobility transportation system with increased local economy and technologically satisfied service for passengers.
The Chairman of Chinese Automobile, Chief Diana Chen, who thanked the Lagos State government for the over two hundred thousand dollars counterpart funding investment which she believed is in the best interest of residents’ comfortability, promised to continue to provide employment for youths in Lagos.
With the new expected five thousand e-hailing Lagride vehicles, the fleet will jump to six thousand to increase its visibility and improve the transport experience for residents.
