AN underaged girl, who ran out of her guardian’s custody and chose to take refuge under the Jibowu Bridge in Yaba, Lagos, has been rescued from the inherent danger associated with her action.
The girl, identified as Kemisola Christy, was yesterday (Monday, 16 October 2023) at 7:20 am found sitting lonesomely under the bridge, a posture that aroused the curiosity of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, who went closer and engaged her.
Responding to questions as to her mission at that spot, the distraught girl stated that she willingly and intentionally absconded from her guardian’s abode on 72, Glover Street, Ebute- Metta over alleged ill-treatment.
Speaking further, Kemisola said she was afraid and had to run away when the said guardian threatened to chop off her hands when caught stealing One Hundred Naira (N100) from her purse.
According to the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, the young girl was picked up and handed over to the Alakara Police Station for further investigation.
