Lawyer Asks Court To Stop Gov Fubara From Re-Presenting 2024 Budget To Rivers Assembly

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Kayode Ajulo, has filed a suit before a Federal High Court, Abuja seeking to stop Governor Siminalayi Fubara from re-presenting the 2024 budget to the state House of Assembly.

The lawyer in suit FHC/ABJ/CS/1718/2023 is asking the court to stop such a move pending the hearing and determination of a suit. The suit also prayed for an order restraining the state House Assembly and the Speaker of the House from screening and confirming the commissioners appointed by Governor Fubara.

Ajulo further urged the court to take cognizance of the motion on notice attached with the suit and stop the holding of plenary sessions by the 27 members of the State House of Assembly out of the 32 members.

Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the budget was passed and assented by a five-member House led by Edison Ehie, which at the time was recognised vide a court order.

However, following an intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who brokered peace between the governor and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike,  it was agreed that the budget should be re-presented to the Rt. Hon Martins Chike Amaewhule-led House.
