OUT-of-favour Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun remains hopeful that he still possesses the necessary skills to represent Nigeria and is ready to accept a call-up if extended.
At 36 years old, Balogun was once a crucial player under former coach Gernot Rohr, but injuries have hindered his progress with the Super Eagles.
Now fully recovered, the ex-Mainz 05 player is focused on regaining a spot in the national team as Nigeria gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
In an interview with Brila FM, Balogun stated, “I didn’t reject an invitation; unfortunately, just before the World Cup break, I suffered an injury that was supposed to keep me out for a few weeks, but things didn’t go as planned.
“I couldn’t join the squad because I wasn’t yet fit, and even after I recovered, I had a setback. However, since then, I haven’t had any major injuries.”
He emphasized, “I’ve always been available I’ve never announced my retirement from international football.
“Those who need to know are aware that I’m still eager and determined to represent the national team.”
