LOBI Stars of Makurdi yesterday at Lafia City Stadium, Nasarawa State, overcame a 55th-minute deficit courtesy of Sunday Megwo’s goal to triumph 3-1 over Abia Warriors.
Coaches Daniel Amokachi and Mika Lönnström’s strategic substitutions proved pivotal as Segun Olorintoba, Emmanuel Nnaji, and Ajibola Adeleke energized the team.
The Yes Father Boys sustained the needed pressure on the Abia-based side, which paid off shortly after substitute Olorintoba equalized in the 61st minute while Emmanuel Nnaji delivered a sublime cross into the box, and Collins Nwoburuoke attempted to clear the ball out, but he ended up putting the ball into his net in the 79th minute, sending the fans into wide jubilation.
As the minutes winded down, Segun Olorintoba secured all points for his side when he scored his second of the evening deep into the regulations time, changing the scoreline to 3-1 to earn maximum points after the full-time. Securing three points and lifting Lobi Stars to 16th place with 12 points in the Nigeria Premier Football League
Lobi Stars players held the Lafia fans spellbound with their accurate passes, ball control and dribbles.
Fans who spoke with journalists commended the Daniel Amokachi-led technical crew for the quick turnaround of the team, saying, “The sky is their limit”.
In a separate post-match reaction with the head coach Mika Lönnström, he praised his side for putting in a decent performance and securing the maximum points, pointing out that the team is a work in progress even as he promised to work with the lads for more positive results ahead.
Up next, Lobi Stars will take a long trip to South West to confront Sunshine Stars of Akure on matchday 12.
