The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar on Thursday met in London, the United Kingdom.
The meeting between Atiku and the governor is part of efforts to resolve that crisis rocking the party following the outcome of the presidential primaries and the choice of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as the vice presidential candidate of Atiku in next year’s election.
A source preveal to the meeting revealed that the former Vice President pleaded with Wike to support him in 2023.
The source, a close associate of Governor Wike, further stated that Atiku, during the meeting, agreed to meet all the demands of Wike.
According to the source, the camp of the Rivers State governor has agreed to work with Atiku in 2023.
The source noted that the details of the agreement between the PDP presidential candidate and Governor Wike in London will be released.
The source stated, “He (Atiku) has agreed to meet all demands. He will sign an undertaking on all the agreements. Once he can meet them, the Wike group is ready to work with him. The details will be made known.”
The source revealed that the Governor of Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintri, accompanied the former Vice-President to the meeting.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that some of the conditions Mr Wike’s group have mouthed in recent weeks is the immediate resignation of the National Chairman of the party, Senator Iyochir Ayu and his replacement with a candidate from the Southern part of the country who must be the choice of the Rivers State governor.
Another demand by the Wike group is a written undertaking by Alhaji Atiku to serve only one term in the event that he is victorious in next year’s election and Wike made the automatic candidate for the 2027 election.
