OYO State governor, Seyi Makinde, has revealed that he will announce his preferred successor in January 2026 as political activities for the next election cycle begin.
Makinde disclosed this on Monday during the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture, held at the Government House Arcade in Ibadan. The lecture, titled “Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspective,” was delivered by the Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomoland, Yunus Teliat.
Speaking in Yoruba, the governor expressed gratitude to Muslim leaders for their support of his administration and urged them to continue praying for the government. In a lighthearted moment, he addressed Abbas Oloko, a well-known socialite, asking him not to take down his billboard at Isale Alfa.
“I’m not yet a lame duck. Please, leave my billboard at Isale Alfa. In January 2026, when political activities begin, I will show you the person that will be installed there,” Makinde said.
He also urged Muslims to use the Ramadan season to promote peace and unity in society, regardless of religious differences.
