An Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on Wednesday sentenced a man, Ayokunle Bailey to life imprisonment for defiling a 15-year-old girl in an uncompleted building
Justice Abiola Soladoye, in her judgment, held that the prosecution had proved the charge of defilement against the convict.
Soladoye also held that the convict was brutal, crude and unkind man who messed up with the survivor’s purity and innocence.
“The defendant is rough and selfish. The survivor gave her testimony truthfully, cogently, positively and brilliantly. She was brave.
“The story of the defendant is dishonest, full of lies and it was not jelling. He is a reckless and ruthless defendant.
“The defendant is hereby found guilty as charged, as the prosecution has proved the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
“The defendant, having been found guilty as charged, is sentenced to life imprisonment without the option of fine,”
The judge ordered that the convict should have his name entered into the register of sexual offenders of Lagos State.
The prosecution presented two witnesses at the trial against the defendant.
According to the state prosecution team led by Mr Olusola Soneye and Mrs Olufunke Adegoke, the defendant committed the offence on 18th December 2017 in Alaka, Mushin, Lagos.
The prosecution submitted that the survivor had visited her grandmother and she was playing with other children outside the house when the defendant lured her into an uncompleted building and forcefully had sex with her.
They said the defendant was arrested after the survivor walked home with blood dripping from her vagina.
The survivor identified the defendant and told her aunt about the incident which led to the arrest of the defendant.
The prosecution said the offence contravened Sections 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015
