A-25 year-old man, who deceptively had carnal knowledge of a teenage girl he met on Facebook and even wanted to exploit her by giving her an option of parting with N50,000 or having her nude pictures splashed on social media, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.
Ebenezer Adeshina allegedly lured the victim to his abode and oblivious of his ulterior motive, the girl, with a plain mind, gladly took the drink he offered her. Unknown to her the drink has been laced with a sedative substance which knocked the girl into a state of unconsciousness, following which Ebenezer raped her.
As if that was not enough a humiliation, Ebenezer, while the girl was still unconscious, took shots of her nakedness, something he later used with the intent of blackmailing her into paying him a sum of Fifty Thousand Naira (N50, 000,00) only or have the pictures posted on social media.
Distraught by this development, the teenage girl reported the incident at the Owode-Egbado Police Division in Ogun State, under which jurisdiction the incident took place.
According to the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the victim said in her statement said that she met the suspect on Facebook sometime in 2021, and they have been chatting until her phone developed a fault, leading to a loss in communication.
“But in March, this year, the suspect called her and demanded for reason (s) she chose not to chat with him again, to which the victim explained that it was due to her faulty handset”, Oyeyemi said in a press statement, adding that, “The suspect then asked her to come over to his house to collect the sum of N3,000 for the repair of the phone. On getting there, the suspect offered her a drink, which she took, unknown to her that the drink had been laced with a sedative drug.
“Immediately she took the drink, she became unconscious and the suspect used that opportunity to have unlawful carnal knowledge of her, against her wish. After having sex with her in a state of unconsciousness, the suspect took her nude pictures and started threatening to upload the pictures on social media if she didn’t pay him the sum of Fifty Thousand Naira.
“Upon the report, the DPO, CSP Muhammad S Baba, detailed his detectives to go after the suspect. He was eventually apprehended on 6th May and has confessed to the commission of the crime”, the PPRO said.
Meanwhile, according to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
