A woman bearing a striking resemblance to Mercy Johnson, the popular Nollywood actress, has come forward, claiming to be her biological mother. She has appealed for a DNA test to confirm her identity.
According to her account, she was married to a Nigerian man from Kogi State and had three children with him. While pregnant with her fourth child, her mother from Cameroon informed her about her critically ill father’s desire to see his grandchildren before his passing.
The woman’s husband instructed her to take their youngest child with her, leaving Mercy Johnson and her elder brother, Martin Ngei, with their father and another woman. Over the past 30 years, she has made numerous attempts to find her children in Nigeria, but all her efforts have been in vain.
Upon finally locating Mercy, the woman requested a DNA test to substantiate her claim. She visited the hospital where Mercy’s husband, Prince Okojie, was present.
The woman further revealed that Prince Okojie denied knowing her and disputed her claim of being the person to whom he paid Mercy’s bride price. Although Prince Okojie agreed to fund the DNA test, he requested that she cover her own expenses.
The woman expressed her embarrassment at this situation, having exhausted all her funds on transportation costs to Nigeria. She emphasized that her intentions were not motivated by a desire for Mercy’s wealth, as she has been self-sufficient all these years.
Furthermore, she disclosed that Mercy’s birth name is Ngei Magdalene and that she was born in 1982. She is fully willing to undergo the DNA test.
Mercy had extended an invitation for her to visit Nigeria, but the woman has been struggling to find accommodation since she has no home there.
“I gave birth to her at a private hospital in Benue State. She is aware that I am her biological mother, and she knows that Mercy Johnson is not her real name. In fact, when I arrived in Nigeria, she asked me what my real name was, and I told her,” she explained.
