A Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja yesterday (Thursday) ordered the remand of a man, Chinonso Njoku, for an alleged sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl.
Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Njoku after he pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on sexual assault by penetration and defilement which was preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
State counsel, Mr Olusola Soneye, thereafter, prayed the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the commencement of trial.
The defence counsel, Mr Olusegun Akanbi, on his part, prayed for a liberal bail term.
Justice Soladoye ordered Akanbi to file his bail application for a proper hearing.
She adjourned the case till 12 March 2025 for commencement of trial and hearing of bail application.
Earlier, the prosecution informed the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence between 2020 and 2021 on Ojo Street, Oguntade, Shasha, Lagos.
The prosecutor alleged the defendant sexually assaulted the nine-year-old girl by inserting his manhood into her on several occasions.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence violates sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Code Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
