JUSTICE Abiola Sholadoye of a Lagos Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court has ordered the remand of Augustine Ekerette in the maximum section of the Nigeria Correctional Services (NCS) over an alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl.
The court’s order is sequel to his arraignment on one count charge of defilement brought against him by the state government.
The defendant was alleged to have committed the offence between 2020 and July 2023 at Plot 124, GRA, Ogunla, Ikorodu, when he allegedly defiled the 17-year-old girl by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution says his alleged offence is contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law Cap C.17, Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecution counsel, Ms A.R Bolade, prayed the court for an adjournment in order to commence a trial in the suit.
The judge, therefore, granted the prayer for adjournment by the prosecutor, ordered that the defendant be remanded in a correctional facility and subsequently adjourned to 11 November 2024 for trial.
