TWENTY-ONE-YEAR-OLD Mojisola Awesu was until her death a final year student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa. She was found dead in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State in what authorities suspect to be a ritual killing.
Mojisola had been missing since 9 August 2024. Her body was discovered on 12 August 2024 at a refuse dump site in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin. The grim discovery was made by a resident, Mr Olorunoje, who raised the alarm after finding her remains on his way back from the mosque at approximately 7:30 am.
Reports indicate that Mojisola received a phone call on 9 August from a woman named Timileyin, who informed her about an event being organised by students of Summit University, Offa, and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin. Timileyin introduced Mojisola to a man identified as Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, who reportedly invited her to a night party. He allegedly offered her a sum of Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000.00) only to act as his girlfriend at the event.

Mojisola reportedly informed her roommate, Blessing, that she felt uneasy at the hotel where Adebayo had lodged her, particularly after discovering that there was no party as promised. Shortly after this communication, her phone was switched off, and all subsequent attempts by Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful.
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of Mojisola’s body. The police spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, announced that several suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. The investigation has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further scrutiny.
This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the community, raising concerns about the safety of students and the increasing reports of ritual killings in the region. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
