PHARAOHS of Egypt winger Mohamed Salah has withdrawn from further participation in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote D’Ivoire to complete his rehabilitation at the Premier League club in England, Liverpool, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) declared on Sunday.
The Egyptian captain sustained a hamstring injury during the match against Ghana which ended in a draw in a Nations Cup group stage on Thursday, and Egypt’s doctor had said that the Liverpool star needs approximately one week of treatment.
“After further examinations and discussions between the medical staff and its counterpart at Liverpool, it was decided that the player will return to England after Cape Verde’s game tomorrow (today) to complete his rehabilitation,” read a statement on the (EFA) Facebook account.
The EFA added that Salah would return to join the team if it qualifies for the semi-finals.
Egypt are facing a must-win situation against Cape Verde on Monday (today) to secure a spot in the round of 16.
The Pharaohs sit in second place in their group with two points from two games, trailing group leaders Cape Verde by four points.
