BARELY a day after Olivier Nizeyimana Mugabo announced his resignation as Rwanda Football Association president, four more top officials have turned in their resignations as the federation undergoes a major shakeup.

Nizeyimana resigned from office on Wednesday, 19 April, citing personal reasons including what he termed in his resignation letter as ‘a lot of work’.

Federation vice president, Marcel Habyarimana, who is serving as the incumbent president role, confirmed that more officials have handed in their resignation letters.

They include federation Secretary-General, Henry Muhire who has been in office since January 2022.

Muhire was initially suspended in June 2022 amid “issues of accountability” falling under the scope of his work.

The former sports journalist was reinstated to continue his responsibilities two weeks later.

Meanwhile, Jules Karangwa will assume the Secretary-General interim role to fill Muhire’s absence in office after his resignation.

Besides Muhire, three members of FERWAFA’s executive committee (excom) followed Nizeyimana’s footsteps and resigned.

They include the Head of Football Development, David Iraguha, Delphine Uwanyiligira and Aaron Rurangirwa who were in charge of legal matters and referees, respectively.
