The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has clarified that the Milk and Dairy Products Regulations, 2021 clearly define and recognize various milk products, including whole milk powder, skimmed milk powder, and filled milk-a blend of skimmed milk and vegetable fat.
In a release in response to an article published by an online news platform with the title: “Investigation: Milk or Mimic: Nigeria’s Dairy Market, a Hub for Inferior EU Products”, NAFDAC, emphasized that the Codex Alimentarius Commission, an international body that sets food standards, includes a standard for a blend of skimmed milk and vegetable fat in powdered form, known as filled milk, which is recognised and regulated under the Milk and Dairy Products Regulations, 2021.
NAFDAC, in the release endorsed by its Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye assures the public that all dairy products registered for use in Nigeria undergo thorough regulatory diligence to safeguard public health.
NAFDAC says it remains committed to its mandate of ensuring the safety and quality of food products in Nigeria and will continue to regulate with the best interest of the public at heart.
