David Doherty is a Nigerian based in the United Kingdom (UK) seeking to contest the office of the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the scheduled 30 September election.
The Surulere-born entrepreneur is the founder of Team Nigeria UK, a project that ensures teenage Nigerians scouted in Nigeria are presented with an opportunity to combine education with sports of their choice in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom.
Team Nigeria UK, according to reports, has partners from corporate entities in the UK, especially in the football circle. For instance, Southampton FC is one of such highly respected partners.
However, while Doherty has bought the nomination form for the election and secured the mandatory endorsement from at least three geopolitical zones aside from his, he hasn’t been able to secure the endorsement of his region, the South-West. He already has endorsements from Edo FA, Plateau FA and Anambra FA.
He needed to secure that of his state FA which is Lagos but despite his calls, appeals and enquiries to get executive members of the Lagos State Football Association to endorse his form, his efforts have met a brick wall. It is alleged that no one is forthcoming with any reason or word regarding his request.
Efforts to reach concerned authorities have proven abortive as this writer is told “Those in charge are in Abuja or I am not competent to comment on this matter.”
