A young and talented Nigeria jumper, Goodness Iredia, may miss out on the 2028 Olympic Games no thanks to a ban placed on him by the Athletics Integrity Unit for a period of three years for the Presence/Use of a Prohibited Substance (Metenolone and Metabolite.
Iredia, a Nigerian national champion, was a bronze medalist at the 2024 African Championships in Douala.
He tested positive for the anabolic steroid methenolone and its metabolite during an in-competition urine test at a college meet in Louisville, Kentucky, where he won the long jump on 31 January 2025.
The sample, analysed by a WADA-accredited laboratory in Utah, confirmed the presence of the prohibited substance, for which Iredia had no therapeutic use exemption.
Iredia was provisionally suspended on 26 February 2025 after he was notified of the adverse finding on 19 February 2025.
On 5 March 2025, the 20-year-old jumper admitted to the anti-doping rule violation by signing an acceptance form.
His ban was reduced from a four-year ban to three years under World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules because of his quick admittance.
His ineligibility period began on 26 February 2025 and will end in February 2028, with all results since 31 January 2025, disqualified.
