THE board of the Nigeria National League (NNL) has postponed the commencement date of the 2023/2024 league season.
The league was initially scheduled to kick off on Saturday 28 October in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, but had to be shifted forward to enable all the 40 clubs in the league to conclude registration formalities before the start of the new season.
A statement by the Nigeria National League, which is the second tier league in the country, said the board in arriving at the decision took into consideration the inability of teams to meet up with the Wednesday, 25 October,2023 registration deadline due to the current economic challenges in the country.
“We regret to announce that the 2023/2024 league season originally planned to kick off this Saturday in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital has been postponed to a new date which will be communicated to teams once clubs finish formalization of the registration process.” the statement reads.
The statement further explained that with the latest development, clubs are now advised to conclude their registration on 3 November 2023 noting that once registration is concluded, the board of NNL will announce a new date for the commencement of the league.
Teams are however warned that failure to meet up with the new registration date means non-participation in the league.
