NIGERIAN umpires have again been snubbed as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) released the official list of referees that will officiate at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Sixty-eight centre referees, assistant referees and video assistant referees have been selected by CAF to feature in the Cote d’Ivoire 2023 which kicks off on 13 January 2024.
Nigerian arbiters have struggled to gain recognition from CAF and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) in recent years but out of the 19 selected nationalities, Egypt and Morocco have three representatives each.
Algeria, Gabon and Mauritania have two each on the list of referees for the 2023 AFCON finals that will run from 13 January to 11 February 2024.
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group A with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
