THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted reports mostly on social media suggesting that corps members’ bank accounts are being adjusted in anticipation of a new N70,000 minimum wage.
In a statement by Eddy Megwa, the Director of Information and Public Relations, the NYSC discountenanced such reports labelling them as misleading.
According to the NYSC, no official directive has been received from the appropriate authorities to initiate the payment of an N70,000 minimum wage to Corps Members or to modify their account structures.
“This claim is entirely false and has no basis in truth,” the statement clarified.
The NYSC, therefore, enjoined corps members, their parents, and the general public to disregard the report, as the agency has not received any communication from the relevant government department responsible for wage matters. Accordingly, the NYSC can’t make any announcements regarding such payments.
“Corps Members are well aware of the approved communication channels within the Scheme and are advised to ignore this false directive,” the statement continued.
The NYSC further cautioned corps members against falling prey to those seeking to mislead the public and manipulate their understanding of the situation.
Additionally, the agency warned bloggers and social media influencers to refrain from disseminating unauthorised statements regarding the management of the National Youth Service Corps.
