Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the Spiritual Leader of Adoration Ministry Enugu (AMEN), has appealed to members of his congregation to pray for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Mbaka also cautioned them to stop castigating the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Callistus Valentine Onaga.

The controversial priest issued the warning while addressing those that converged at the adoration ground in defiance of a directive for the church to be closed down.

He further urged the members to obey His Lordship’s order and keep away from Adoration as all activities remained suspended in obedience to the directive of the Bishop.

Father Mbaka said; ”The church has not stopped me from becoming a priest, even Peter Obi himself, pray for him. Don’t talk against him, please. He is our brother, he is our friend. I don’t want you to go to the main road, I don’t want you to be pugnacious or to be cantankerous.

“I don’t want the Adorers to be violent. I don’t want Adoration people to be classified as bandits for we’re not bandits. We’re obedient children of God, we love the mother church and the mother Church loves us so much.”

Bishop Callistus V. C. Onaga, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese of the Catholic Church had in a letter addressed to all the Clergy, Religious and Lay Faithful in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu titled: Pastoral Injunction On Attendance To Catholic Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, stopped further spiritual activities in the ministry.

Bishop Onaga, in the letter dated 17th June 2022, stated that: “in the light of happenings in the Adoration Ministry Chaplaincy Enugu, capable of undermining catholic faith and teaching, and after several fraternal corrections and admonitions to Fr Camillus Ejike Mbaka, the Chaplain of the Ministry; and after giving him pastoral directives and guidelines for the Ministry Chaplaincy, which he persistently violated; and in fulfilment of my pastoral duties as the Chief Shepherd with the obligation to promote and safeguard the Catholic faith and morals in Enugu Diocese, I hereby prohibit all Catholics (clergy, religious and lay faithful) henceforth from attending religious and liturgical activities of the Catholic Adoration Ministry until the due canonical process initiated by the Diocese is concluded”.

Bishop Onaga further pointed out that his decision is based on the fact that some of the teachings and utterances of Fr Mbaka at the Adoration Ministry are not consistent with the teachings and faith of the Catholic church

Rev. Fr. Mbaka had run into trouble when he described the presidential aspiration of Mr Peter Obi as a dream that will never come to pass.

Speaking during his weekly prayer meeting on Wednesday, the popular Catholic Priest further described Obi as a stingy man and said an old generous man should win the election than a stingy politician.

Mbaka further said that for leaving Peter Obi out of his team, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar is now serious about contesting for the nation’s number one seat.

However, in a volte-face, he apologised to his members and Nigerians for all the things he said about the former Anambra State governor.
