In what appears a rehearse of the events leading to the defeat of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election, some candidates of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for various elections are campaigning using the picture of the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.
Eighteen-Eleven Media report that in the run-up to the 2015 elections, some candidates of the then ruling party, PDP proudly displayed the picture and posters of Muhammadu Buhari, then-candidate of the APC.
The action of this category of politicians may have stemmed from the perceived popularity of Alhaji Atiku in the Northern part of the country. Alhaji Atiku contested the 2019 presidential election against the incumbent, President Buhari. He came second in the poll with about three million votes difference.
