Disturbed by the increasing number of cult-related incidents within his jurisdiction, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police Commissioner, Lanre Bankole, has constituted a special operation squad, headed by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Command’s operations department.
A press statement issued by the command’s spokesman (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, informed that the squad is saddled with the responsibility of quick response to any cult-related issues and will be operating 24 hours a day.
The statement quotes the CP as mandating the squad members to fish out members of the trouble-making cult groups in any part of the state and deal with them by the provision of the law.
The CP reportedly described the activities of cult groups as unacceptable and directed the squad to clamp down on any known member of such groups because “the command will not fold its hands while disgruntled elements will be making life unbearable for law-abiding citizens of the state”
The statement also quoted the police boss as warning parents and guardians to call their wards to order as the battle against cultists was going to be vicious in days to come.
He equally warmed cultists in the state to relocate or be prepared to face the unimaginable onslaught that, according to him, was going to be visited on them by the newly created squad and other conventional policemen in the state.
Bankole, while assuring law-abiding citizens of their safety, appealed to the general public to make it a point of duty to always inform the police whenever they noticed any strange gathering suspected to be that of cultists in their vicinity, with an assurance that such information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
