A man who disguised as a big shot in the Ogun State Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) to defraud a woman of One Million, Four Hundred Thousand Naira (N1.400,000.00) only has been arrested.
The suspect, Alhaji Musa Araokanmi, later became invisible to one Halimot Olorunlomeru, from whom he allegedly and fraudulently collected the whopping sum in June 2020.
Nemesis, however, caught up with him after two years of committing the alleged crime and currently is in police custody.
Araokanmi had introduced himself to the victim as a PCRC member in charge of Police auction sales, and threw bait at the unsuspecting woman, advising her to deposit the sum of N1.4 million with him to get a very good car and motorcycles from Police auction sales.
Olorunlomeru swallowed the bait hook, line and sinker, and deposited the said amount, only to later realise that she had fallen victim to a fraudster.
The suspect was suddenly sighted in Ago-Iwoye, a piece of cherry news the victim cashed in on and formally reported at Ago-Iwoye Police Division.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Oyeyemi said In a press release, “On the strength of the complaint, the DPO Ago iwoye division, SP Noah Adekanye, detailed his detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested”.
According to him, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has never been a member of PCRC anywhere in Ogun State as he claimed. He has also confessed to the commission of the crime”.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed an in-depth investigation into the suspect’s past activities, to arraign him in court as soon as possible.
