A Non-Governmental Organisation, Oniroyin Support Initiative (OSI) has announced plans to provide empowerment support to families of deceased journalists in Ogun State.
The Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mrs Funke Fadugba, in a statement through the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of OSI, Mr Adekunle Olayeni, said the initiative is to demonstrate commitment to supporting the families of journalists who made profound impacts in society but sadly passed away when their services were mostly needed.
The programme will be launched on Thursday, 27th February 2025 at the Basic Trust International, beside ProvidusBank, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta by noon.
The statement added that renowned journalist, Mr Richard Akinnola, would chair the event where cheques and grants would be presented publicly to select beneficiary families of deceased journalists towards ensuring their continued well-being.
Also, the Convener of the programme, Mr Tunde Oladunjoye said the programme is designed to empower and impact the lives of family members of deceased journalists and promote a culture of welfare and safety for journalists.
The statement added that the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr Kehinde Onasanya would deliver the keynote address, coupled with goodwill messages from dignitaries and testimonials from families of the journalists.
Notable personalities expected at the launch include the Onirete of Irete-Ijebu, Oba Abdulganiyu Olusegun Awokoya, Mrs. Bola Obasanjo, the wife of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, as well as the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker.
The statement added that participants at the event would benefit from a free medical outreach programme courtesy of OSI’s partnership with the Ogun State Ministry of Health.
