TWO members of a kidnapping syndicate on Monday, 10th July got more than they bargained for as they met their waterloo in an encounter with security operatives in Ogun State.
The gang, numbering about six, were said to have rushed out of a bush at Fere Village in Owode-Egba and forcefully halted a car on motion, with the intent of kidnapping the driver, one Busari Azeez, at gunpoint.
Disclosing this at a press briefing he hosted on Tuesday, 11 July, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, said: “The driver said the kidnappers opened his car door with the intent to whisk him away, but he summoned courage by reversing his car with a high speed to flee the scene. He jumped out of his car and ran into a nearby bush”.
Early responders to the scene, made up of police detectives from Owode-Egba Division and local hunters, combed the bush for hours and spotted the suspects, during which a fierce exchange of gun duel ensued.
At the end of the encounter, the CP said, two members of the syndicate were found to have been felled by operatives’ bullets.
He further stated that the lifeless body of the kidnappers had been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) morgue in Sagamu, adding that efforts were in top gear to arrest other fleeing members of the gang
Recovered at the scene were a Type 06 ASSAULT rifle, one live ammunition, two itel phones, a wristwatch, a necklace, a sum of N3, 350 and assorted charms.
