OPERATIVES of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a suspected ritualist, Monday Ogunniyi, for allegedly abducting a woman, Regina Oladeyo, in the Oja-Odan area of the state.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by Oladeyo Idowu, who reported the case at a local police station.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, while confirming the incident, stated that officers acted swiftly, leading to the victim’s rescue at the suspect’s residence.
During interrogation, Ogunniyi confessed to the abduction and alleged that both he and the complainant, Oladeyo Idowu, were involved in ritual activities using human remains.
According to SP Odutola: “On 17 December 2024, at about 4:30 pm, Oladeyo Idowu from the School 4 Area, Oja-Odan, reported a case of abduction against Monday Ogunniyi of the Okegbala area. During questioning, Ogunniyi confessed to the abduction and claimed that he and the complainant engaged in rituals involving human remains.”
The police spokesperson further revealed that detectives, acting on Ogunniyi’s confession, discovered a dried human skeleton draped in female clothing near a river in the Afige area of Oja-Odan. The suspect implicated the complainant in storing and dismembering the corpse.
“The suspect’s confession led detectives to a site where a human skeleton, clothed in female attire, was found near a river. Ogunniyi also implicated Oladeyo Idowu in the storage and dismemberment of the corpse,” SP Odutola added.
Odutola also stated that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
