THE All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has disclosed that a 72-hour resumption directive has been issued by its reinstated chairmen to local government workers across the state.
APC said any local government worker who failed to resume work on Wednesday will have his job terminated.
The Osun APC also accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of planning to instigate violence through non-state actors despite his directive on newly elected council chairmen to avoid local government secretariats.
In a statement released on Monday by Kola Olabisi, the party’s Director of Media and Information, the APC described the governor’s directive as deceitful, claiming that Adeleke intends to attack the ‘legally’ reinstated chairmen and councillors.
The APC further alleged that militants, disguised in security uniforms, were being positioned to intimidate citizens and abduct opposition members to create fear and chaos.
Recall that Governor Adeleke on Sunday (yesterday) swore in the 30 local government chairmen elected a day earlier in an election boycotted by the APC. All the sworn-in council bosses and councillors were members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
APC had cited a Court of Appeal judgment delivered earlier in the month as its reason for boycotting the exercise. According to the party, based on the decision, there was no vacancy in the council secretariats across the state. Meanwhile, an attempt to forcefully retake control of the council secretariats last week led to the death of at least six persons including the erstwhile chairman of Irewole Local Government, Remi Abass, who following the verdict of the Court of Appeal resumed duties last Monday but was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the local government secretariat in Ikire.
Governor Adeleke has in the meantime directed the newly sworn-in council officials to stay away of the council secretariats to avoid confrontation with undesirable elements.
