THE Oyo State government has revealed plans to strengthen a primary health centre in each of the local governments of the state for the well-being of elderly people in the state.
The state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, revealed this at an event in commemoration of the International Day for the Elderly, held at the House of Chiefs, Agodi Secretariat Ibadan.
Mrs Balogun said the state would kick start the elder-friendly health care in nine local governments and later extend it to others before the year 2027.
Dr Tunde Ajobo, a nutritionist, in his lecture on the importance of water and food at the appropriate time, urged the state government to prioritise the welfare of the elderly people and ensure it extends such a programme to the nooks and crannies of the state.
In their separate remarks, elder statesman, Dr Saka Balogun, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade and a member representing Ibadan North Constituency 1, State House of Assembly, Honourable Comforter Olajide, appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for unwavering commitment to bridging the gap between the young and the elderly.
Highlights of the event included health talk, checkup, games and prizes, while foodstuff and cash gifts were distributed to the elders.
