THE main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reversed the indefinite suspension placed on key stakeholders including former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema; his counterpart in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, former Senate President, Sen. Pius Anyim; a stalwart of the Party in Benue State, Prof. Dennis Ityavyar and Dr. Aslam Aliyu from Zamfara State.
Arising from National Working Committee (NWC), held today, the PDP also reverses the referral of the governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom to the Party National Disciplinary Committee.
A statement by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party said the decision is in recognition of the imperative of a total reconciliation among Party leaders and critical stakeholders for a more cohesive Party in the overall interest of its teeming members and Nigerians in general.
“This decision is without prejudice to the powers of the NWC to take necessary disciplinary action against any member of the Party at any time pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
“The NWC charges all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of our Party across the country to be guided by the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) as well as the new spirit and necessity of reconciliation, unity and harmony in our Party at this critical time.
“The PDP must remain focused as we continue to take every necessary action to recover the stolen mandate freely given by Nigerians to our Party and presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Saturday 25th February 2023, at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal”.
Eighteen-Eleven Media reports that the Party had last Thursday announced varying disciplinary measures against the affected members.
Announcing the suspension, Hon Ologunagba said that the party leadership decided after an extensive review of its affairs in the country and pursuant to the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).
He urged all leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members of PDP across the country to remain united and focused at this critical time.
Meanwhile, the erstwhile former National Chairman of the party, Dr. Iyochia Ayu on Tuesday stepped down from the position. This followed his suspension from the Party at his Ward and subsequent injunction by a court of law ordering him to refrain from parading himself as the Chairman of the Party.
