FORMER governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has declared that Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election has emerged as the true voice of the opposition in Nigeria, overshadowing his counterpart from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking during a programme on Channels Television on Sunday, the two-term governor did not hide his pessimism with regard to the chances of the PDP in the 2027 elections, pointing out that the party stand little chance of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
With palpable frustration, he lamented the deepening leadership crisis that has gripped his party, insisting that PDP members now find themselves adrift, increasingly alienated and devoid of the cohesive identity that once united them. “We no longer have a party,” he stated, reflecting the despair and uncertainty that has settled over the once-dominant political force.
”As I always say, we can defeat the APC but when we don’t have a party again, how can we defeat them?” He queried.
Fayose, who also urged Atiku to stop contesting elections in Nigeria, said, “When we complain about the APC, and we don’t have a party, and you can say you will do this and that, but when Obi is the voice of the opposition now.
“The press will call Obi rather than call the PDP and when the Publicity Secretary is suspending people and vice-versa, so where is the party?”
