JUSTICE Abike-Fadipe of a Lagos Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has ordered the remand of former Iju-Ishaja branch manager of Polaris Bank Limited, Abiodun Sanni, in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional facility over alleged One Hundred and Twenty-Two Million, Eleven Thousand, and Four Hours and Forty-One Naira (N122,011,441,00) fraud.
Abiodun was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on 16-count charges of obtaining credit by false pretences, forgery, use of false documents and stealing.
According to one of the charges, it was alleged that “Abiodun Sanni, on or about 24th February 2020 in Lagos, being the bank manager of the lju branch of Polaris Bank Limited, obtained credit in the form of a loan in the sum of N17, 000,000.00 for Bamgbose Tayo Taofia trading under the name and style of Banut Haulage from Polaris Bank Limited, by the false pretence that the loan had collateral in the form of a fixed deposit account number 0071572791 worth N111,540,380.52 belonging to Yinkus Multibiz Ventures and that the owner, Mrs Aderibigbe Olayinka Hannah, consented to it being used as collateral.”
The defendant was further alleged to have dishonestly converted a Polaris Bank Limited fixed deposit account number 0071277522 worth Fifteen Million, Eleven Thousand, Four Hundred and Forty-One Naira (N15,011,441.00) belonging to Atolagbe Joshua Tinuoye.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Adewunmi urge the court to remand the defendant pending his trial date.
“My Lord the prosecutor intended to call 10 witnesses with regard to this case and we urge the court to remand the defendant in custody”
The defence counsel, Osho Oludoshu, notified the court of his intention to file a bail application.
Justice Abike-Fadipe adjourned the case and ordered that the bail application be made available to the court before the next adjourned date.
“I adjourned this case to 6 and 19 of Match 2025, I order the remand of the defendant in a correctional facility, and they are entitled to bring a bail application before his trial date”
