- He Was Invited Not Arrested Or Detained – OPU President
THE Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji was on Wednesday reportedly arrested and detained after he honoured an invitation by Police operatives from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Eighteen-Eleven Media was unable to ascertain the real reason behind the arrest and detention of the foremost monarch. However, speaking on the development, President of Osogbo Progressives Union, Justice Kunle Adeigbe (retd), claimed the monarch was only invited by the police, but not detained by the law enforcement agency as being rumoured.
He said the monarch was actually invited by the police over a petition against him, adding that he was never detained.
Adeigbe, in a text message in response to an enquiry by a correspondent of a newspaper, further said, “It’s untrue that His Royal Majesty, Kabiyesi, Ataoja of Osogboland is being held in Abuja by the Police.
“The truth is that the Ataoja was invited to Abuja to clear himself of some allegations contained in a petition to the police against him, just like anybody can be invited by the police on any alleged allegation.
“The Ataoja is now already on his way back to Osogbo from his trip to the federal capital where he went only yesterday (Wednesday). I can confirm to you that Ataoja is not being detained in Abuja as you are reading on social media.”
The rumour of the arrest of the foremost monarch has been a hot debate on social media in the last few hours, particularly as it took a political slant with supporters of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its rival the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State being at each other’s jugular on the development.
