THE Nigeria Police Force has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Muhammad Sanusi II, to appear before its Force Intelligence Department in Abuja. Nigerian political capital.
In a letter dated 4 April 2025 and signed by the Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, the traditional ruler has been directed to report to the Force Intelligence Department headquarters by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 8 April 2025.
The summons is tied to Emir Sanusi’s alleged defiance of a security directive restricting public Durbar processions during the Eid festivities.
Authorities had announced the suspension of such an event, citing security concerns and the risk of public unrest.
Despite the official restriction, Emir Sanusi reportedly proceeded with the traditional Durbar ceremonies, attracting large crowds on Sallah day. He also led a procession and paid a visit to the Kano State Government House.
The Police have since launched a formal investigation into the matter. As part of the inquiry, the Kano State Police Command has also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, a key palace official, for questioning.
