ANAMBRA State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has said that the principal suspects arrested in connection with the kidnap and subsequent murder of a member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Justice Azuka are still in police custody.
Justice Azuka, a member of the Labour Party, was abducted on 24 December 2024. His decomposing body was later discovered on 6 February 2025 at the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha. Nine suspects were initially arrested in connection with the crime. He represented Onitsha North I State Constituency in the Assembly.
Speaking during a press briefing, CP Orutugu equally paraded one Tochukwu Akolisa who is said to be the car receiver. The CP assured that the fleeing suspects, Ikemefuna Ossai from Delta State and Chinedu Okoli from Imo State, will be re-arrested, while measures will be taken to prevent what he described as “operational lapses”.
He also announced that on 18th February 2025 at about 8 pm, Police operatives at Upper Iweka arrested one Chigozie Orji with a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed inside a bag, adding that an abducted victim was also rescued by officers of the Command.
He assured continued synergy with other sister security agencies, including local vigilante groups, in order to improve operational capacity, security coverage and tactical efficiency, adding that the goal is to disrupt criminal activities and ensure that Anambra State remains a safe and secure environment for all.
