JUSTICE Sherifat Sonaike of a Lagos State High Court sitting in Tafawa Balewa Square on the island has fixed 2 May 2025 for judgment in the case of the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) driver, Andrew Ominikoron who is standing trial for the alleged rape and murder of his passenger, Bamise Ayanwola.
Justice Sonaike picked the date after the adoption of the final written addresses of both the defence and prosecuting counsel.
Ominikoron (47) was arraigned in March 2022, on a five-count charge of alleged rape, conspiracy, felony, sexual assault, and murder preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
The prosecution told the court that Ominikoron conspired with others (now at large) to rape and murder the fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola, aged 22.
It said that the defendant had sexual intercourse with Ayanwola, without her consent, and murdered her, at about 7 pm, between Lekki Ajah Expressway and Carter Bridge, on 26 February 2022.
The prosecution alleged that the defendant and others now at large on 26 February 2022, unlawfully killed Ayanwola by throwing her out of his moving BRT bus between Lekki-Ajah Expressway and Cater Bridge.
Andrew Ominikoron however pleaded not guilty to all the count charges.
