A motor driver, early on Saturday, 11 November at Yaya Abatan by College Road in Ogba, Lagos, crushed a man to death.

The incident would have been recorded as a case of hit-and-run as the driver attempted to escape, on realising that the victim died on the spot.

His bid to bolt was truncated by a team of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials attached to the Agege/Iju-Ifako axis, and led by its commander, Akinola Ganiyu, LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed in a press release.

According to him, the driver was instantly handed over to policemen from Area ‘G’ Command, Ogba, who were also at the accident scene.

Adebayo stated that a preliminary investigation conducted by the traffic agency revealed the suspect to have been reckless, even as he was on top speed while behind the wheels of the ill-fated, unregistered white Mercedes Benz (CLA  250) car, following which he lost control and crushed the victim.

The accident caused traffic gridlock on the road but was no sooner cleared for free vehicular movement by Commander Ganiyu’s LASTMA team, who also confirmed that members of the deceased family later arrived at the scene and took away the corpse.

Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Bolaji Oreagba, has cautioned the motoring public to desist from overspeeding and obey road signs.
