Redeemed Church Directs Parish, Area, Zonal Pastors To Appoint Political Coordinators

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has announced the appointment of Pastor Timothy Olaniyan (PICP Lagos Province 12) as the head of the newly created Directorate of Politics and Governance.

A memo dated 28th February 2022 addressed to all Pastors-in-Charge of Regions and Provinces say it was also to notify them of the creation of the office.

The memo, signed by Pastor J.F. Odesola (Admin and Personnel) also directed the pastors to “with immediate effect appoint Provincial Officer for your province and also ensure that the same is done at all levels of the Church – Zone, Area and Parish.

” The essence of the Directorate is to help coordinate the engagement of our people who are willing to be involved in politics as well as mobilise support for them when required.

“Kindly send to the office of the undersigned details of your Regional and Provinces coordinators within two weeks of receiving this letter.

The church has in recent days come under scathing criticism by some who say it was dabbling into politics. These critics believe the church took the decision to help actualise rumoured presidential ambition of the Vice-President, Profesoor Yemi Osinbajo. Osinbajo is not just a member of the church but also a serving pastor.
