THERE are few characters in Nigeria’s political space as predictable as Reno Omokri. Like a chameleon adjusting to its environment, Omokri’s loyalty is dictated not by principles but by personal gain.
A self-styled activist, political commentator, and social media warrior, Reno has built a brand around deception, inconsistency, and outright betrayal — all in the name of survival. If there were a church for political opportunists, Reno Omokri would be its undisputed General Overseer, preaching the gospel of stomach infrastructure with unwavering dedication.
A Career Built on Betrayal
Reno Omokri likes to present himself as a man of wisdom, but history exposes him as a man of convenience. His rise to prominence came under the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, where he served as a Special Assistant on New Media. He defended Jonathan’s government with passion, presenting himself as a loyalist. But the moment Jonathan lost power in 2015, Reno jumped ship, repackaging himself as a neutral commentator, willing to align with anyone willing to fund his new political evangelism.
Since then, he has oscillated between opposition and compliance, depending on where the next meal ticket comes from. The same man who was the loudest critic of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration suddenly found excuses for some of its failures when it suited him. The same man who spent years attacking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu now conveniently finds ways to tone down his criticism, carefully leaving the door open for future patronage.
Double Standards on Display
Omokri’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. He claims to be an advocate for democracy, yet he shamelessly supports any government that offers him relevance. When his political allies commit the same infractions he condemns in others, he suddenly loses his voice. For instance, he attacked Buhari’s administration for economic hardship but has remained suspiciously quiet about the current challenges under President Tinubu. His supposed fight against corruption disappears when his associates are involved, proving that his activism is nothing more than a business venture.
Even his stance on human rights is laughable. A man who claims to champion free speech and democracy was one of the biggest defenders of Jonathan’s crackdown on opposition voices. He conveniently forgets that he once justified actions that he now pretends to oppose.
A Master of Political Prostitution
Reno Omokri’s greatest skill is his ability to switch allegiances without shame. He has worked with and betrayed several political figures in his endless pursuit of personal gain. He was once a defender of Atiku Abubakar, only to later distance himself when it became politically inconvenient. He praised Peter Obi at one point, then turned around to ridicule him when it served his interests. Today, he plays the role of an opposition critic while subtly keeping his options open for reconciliation with those in power.
His so-called activism is nothing but a bargaining tool, a way to remain relevant and cash in on Nigeria’s chaotic political scene. If given the right offer, Reno would gladly rewrite his entire history and align himself with any government, no matter how corrupt or incompetent.
A Merchant of Chaos
Reno Omokri thrives on controversy, double standards, and betrayal. His political ideology is simple: “Follow the money.” He has no real convictions, no genuine loyalty — only a hunger for self-preservation. While he may continue deceiving some with his social media theatrics, history will remember him as a man who stood for nothing and fell for everything.
So, when next you see Reno Omokri pontificating about governance and integrity, remember — this is the General Overseer of Stomach Infrastructure, preaching not for the people, but for his own pocket.
