RIVERS United Football Club on Tuesday joined the nation in celebrating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day with a colourful ceremony at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.
The brief but memorable event took place immediately after the team’s training session, bringing together management, technical crew, players, and backroom staff. The Commissioner for Sports, Rivers State, Barrister Chris Green, was the special guest of honour.
Barrister Green was warmly received by the General Manager of the club, Chief Dr. Okey Kpalukwu, who also serves as Chairman of the NPFL Club Owners Association and Board member of the Nigeria Premier League. Other management members present included Team Secretary Ahmed Abdulraman.
The technical crew, led by Coach Finidi George, Team Captain Temple Emekayi and Team Coordinator Festus Austin also participated in the celebration. The highlight of the event was the cutting of the independence cake, moderated by the club’s Media Director, Charles Mayuku.
The ceremony was a display of patriotism and unity among the Rivers United FC family. The club’s management and players took the opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s progress and express hope for a brighter future.
