UNITED States President, Donald Trump, has stated that his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, is not ready for peace amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Trump made this declaration on Friday, shortly after he met with Zelensky at the Oval Office.
The US President, who has been advocating for an end to the war, said in a post on his Truth Social account that Zelensky believes US involvement gives him a significant advantage in negotiations.
He wrote: “We had a very meaningful meeting in the White House today. Much was learned that could never be understood without conversation under such fire and pressure.
“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelensky is not ready for peace if America is involved because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations.
“I don’t want an advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for peace.”
Meanwhile, another report says following a heated confrontation between President Trump and President Zelenskyy, the former walked out the latter from the Oval Office.
The meeting, intended to discuss a minerals deal and potential peace negotiations with Russia, reportedly escalated when President Trump accused President Zelenskyy of being ungrateful for U.S. support and not ready for peace.
The situation intensified, leading President Trump to abruptly end the meeting and ask President Zelenskyy to leave the White House.
As a result, the planned signing of the minerals agreement was cancelled, and a subsequent press conference was called off.
This incident has strained U.S.-Ukraine relations and prompted European leaders to reaffirm their support for Ukraine.
